[DOC-READ.ME] September 6, 1989
Dear fellow SYSOP,
This is the read me file for the documentation for RBBS-PC
version 17.2B/0806. It should be a part of RBBS-DOC.ZIP,
containing the following files:
RBBSDOC1.ASC 1st half of documentation (pages 1 - 142)
RBBSDOC2.ASC 2nd hald of documentation (pages 143ff.)
172B.DOC Supplemental documentation for 17.2B
The first two files are unchanged from 17.2A.
17.2A's documentation has these 3 major changes:
1. a 4 column left margin so that it can be printed on hole
punched paper.
2. the table of contents marks with an "*" all sections that
are new or significantly revised
3. a version of the documentation is available in Word Perfect
4.2 format for people who want to edit or reformat it
easily. It is on Ken Goosens' board, 703-978-6360.
This file part of a larger set of files and should not be
distributed alone.
RBBS-PC Version CPC17-2B is distributed via three mandatory and four
optional standard "ZIP" files. Two sets of merges are available but
not automatically distributed.
File Name Description
(Mandatory)
RBBS-DOC.ZIP Documentation for RBBS-PC
RBBS-EXE.ZIP Executable files.
RBBS-TXT.ZIP System text files used by RBBS-PC.
(Optional)
RBBS-BAS.ZIP BASIC Source code for RBBS-PC.
RBBS-ASM.ZIP RBBS-PC assembly language source code.
RBBS-EXT.ZIP External protocol drivers
Same as distributed for CPC16-1A, CPC17-1x
RBBS-UTL.ZIP Miscellaneous RBBS-PC utilities.
(Not distributed routinely but available)
RBBS-LIT.ZIP Merges to reduce size of RBBS-PC.EXE.
RBBSSEXE.ZIP RBBS-PC.EXE. Smaller, faster, minimal debugging.
RBBS-MRG.ZIP Merges to upgrade from 17.2A to 17.2B and recompile
Simply uncompress the first three files and follow the instruction in the
RBBS-PC documentation entitled, "Installing RBBS-PC for the First Time."
For those who have never operated an electronic bulletin board before,
we suggest getting Bantam Books' "The Complete Electronic Bulletin Board
Starter Kit" by Charles Bowen and David Peyton (ISBN 0-553-34552-4).
RBBS-PC's documentation is only a "reference" and is not nearly as good
a learning guide for new SYSOP's. However, the book only covers RBBS-PC
version 15.1C, and therefore does not cover new features. Version 17.2B
is downward compatible with the system files of 15.1C.
Enjoy
Ken Goosens
